Royal National Park

Closed areas: Palm Jungle loop track partial closure
The eastern section of Palm Jungle loop track between Burning Palms and Werrong lookout, is closed for 12 months, from Monday 16 January 2023 to Wednesday 31 January 2024.
This closure is due to track upgrade works.
You can still walk this section of The Coast track if you divert via Garawarra Farm and Burgh Ridge trail.

Closed areas: Reid Flat picnic area closure
The Soil Conservation Service will be undertaking remediation works of erosion caused by wet weather events from Tuesday 31 January 2023 until Tuesday 7 February 2023.
Reids Flat picnic area and carpark will be closed during this period, but will re-open with reduced parking from Thursday 2 February 2023 until the completion of works.
The closure is to allow for heavy machinery movements and the delivery of materials.
Weekend access will be unaffected. Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the Royal National Park Visitor Centre on 02 9542 0648.

Closed areas: Area closed for track upgrade
The following area is undergoing trail upgrade works between Monday 30 January to Thursday 20 April 2023. The affected areas are:

  • Uloola Falls trail and walking track 
  • Uloola Falls campground
You may experience delays during works. Please be cautious of machinery on the trail and follow directions of NPWS staff and contractors.

Other planned events: Summer road closures
Royal National Park can be extremely busy in summer. Some parts of the park may be closed at short notice when carparks are full or for other public safety reasons.
Areas likely to be affected by carpark closures or access restrictions when precincts reach capacity are:
  • Wattamolla picnic area and Wattamolla Road
  • Garawarra Farm carpark and Garawarra Farm Road (Figure 8 Pools carpark)
  • Bonnie Vale picnic area
  • Audley precinct
Please note that, due to a landslide, Transport for NSW has closed Garie Road at the intersection with Sir Bertram Stevens Drive. Vehicles and pedestrians will not be able to use any part of Garie Road to access any part of Royal National Park. A reopening date for this road is not currently known, but is expected to be in mid to late 2023.

Closed areas: Areas closed due to helicopter operations
Helicopter operations will take place from 7am to 5pm on Wednesday 15 February 2023. During this time the following areas will be closed:
  • Pool Flat picnic area
  • Reids Flat picnic area
  • Bus Stop Flat picnic area
  • Honeymoon track
Please follow directions of NPWS staff in all affected areas.

Other planned events: Honeymoon track closure
Honeymoon track will be closed on weekdays from Wednesday 1 March 2023 to Wednesday 31 May 2023 for upgrade works.
The track will be open on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays during the closure period.
Works may be extended due to wet weather. For more information, contact the local NPWS office.

Closed areas: Werrong Beach track closed
Werrong Beach track is closed due to a landslip. Further information will be available following a geotechnical assessment.

Safety alerts: Curra Moors track in poor condition
Sections of Curra Moors fire trail and walking loop track are in poor condition due to erosion. Please use caution and be aware of unstable edges.
Planning for repairs is in progress. For more information, contact the local NPWS office.

Closed areas: Garie Road closed due to damage
Garie Road is closed until further notice due to damage to the road surface.
This road may remain closed for some time to allow for extensive repairs. A reopening date is not currently known.
Penalties apply for non-compliance. Please check Live Traffic NSW for updates before driving to Garie Beach.

Closed areas: The Coast track partial closure - Little Garie
The Coast track is closed between Garie and Little Garie until further notice due to rockfalls and erosion.
Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the local NPWS office.

Safety alerts: Landslip on Lady Carrington Drive
Lady Carrington Drive has been impacted by recent rain. The surface is eroded and waterlogged. Use caution on rough and slippery surfaces.
A portion of the track has been impacted by a landslip. Please travel through this section without stopping.

Mount Royal National Park

Closed areas: Mount Royal Road and Cassels Road closed due to road works
The following areas are closed to the public from Sunday 8 January to Tuesday 28 February due to repair works to storm-damaged roads:

  • Mount Royal Road
  • Cassels Road
  • Youngville Camping Area
  • Carrow Brook Walking Track
  • Pieries Peak Walking Track
  • Youngs Trail Picnic Area
