Other planned events: Roadworks affecting users of the Great North Walk north of Karool Road
Ausgrid is undertaking essential maintenance work on Mooney Creek Access Track off Karool Road, Mooney Mooney Creek.
Users of the Great North Walk north of Karool Road along Mooney Creek Access Track may experience temporary delays between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, while machinery is operating.
Take care when entering this area and follow the directions of roadwork signs and onsite contractors.

Closed areas: Great North Walk Closed between Rifle Range and Tommos Loop Fire Trails
The Great North Walk will be closed between Rifle Range Fire Trail and Tommos Loop Fire Trail from Monday 4 March to Thursday 28 March while high risk rockfall mitigation works are undertaken.
The closed area includes:

  • Kariong Brook
  • Myron Brook
  • Pedestrian through access from Wondabyne to Patonga
  • Pedestrian through access from Somersby to Patonga
The following sections of the Great North Walk will remain open:
  • Wondabyne to Somersby (via Scopas Peak)
  • Staples Lookout to Patonga via Tommos Loop Fire Trail and Mount  Wondabyne
Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the local NPWS office.

Closed areas: Kariong Brook Waterhole and Waterfall Closed
The waterhole and waterfall at Kariong Brook is closed until further notice due to risk of rockfall.
The adjacent Great North Walk will remain open.
Signs are in place around the closed area.

Closed areas: Somersby Falls picnic area and walking track closed
Somersby Falls picnic area and walking track, including access to the waterfalls will be closed until 30 June 2024 while the picnic area is being upgraded.
The proposed upgrade will improve visitor safety, accessibility and protect sensitive cultural heritage.
Consider visiting the nearby Girrakool picnic area less than 5 minutes away which also has waterfalls, walking tracks and a well established picnic area.

Closed areas: Brieses fire trail partial closure
The section of Brieses fire trail between Mooney Mooney Creek and Old Mooney Dam trail is closed until further notice due to a landslip, making it unsafe for vehicles.
Signs are in place around closed areas. This area will re-open as soon as it is safe and repair works have been completed.
